
So what's to do in DC for the holidays? Probably one of the most popular and well-known events is the lighting of the National Christmas Tree. The ceremony was held today starting at 5pm where the Obama family all joined hands in lighting the tree. (see picture below). Okay so even if you missed the lighting of the National Tree this evening, there are still MANY other great holiday events going on in DC and the surrounding area. One in particular that I did last weekend with my family was the ICE! show at the Gaylord National Resort located in National Harbor, Maryland. The breath-taking display features 10 different holiday-themed, ice sculptures over 15,000 square feet! The artists began carving the ice blocks back in October and used over 2 million pounds of ice to create the beautiful exhibit! So as you can imagine, it's COLD inside that part of the hotel - the hotel personal actually hand out blue parkas because it's kept at a chilling 9 degrees Fahrenheit!
