• Is your agent a Realtor? – Huh? Yes, there is a difference. An agent with the Realtor designation has taken an additional oath to be ethical in their practices, including: to be honest with ALL parties in a transaction, to put the client's interests above their own, to disclose all pertinent facts about a property, and to be truthful in all communications with the public.

• What is the Realtor's track record? – How many homes has the agent sold in your neighborhood? How many listings do they currently hold? Understanding how active an agent is in the community you are looking to buy or sell in is key to making sure you are being represented with the most knowledgeable professional possible.

• Is the Realtor's license active and in good standing? – Just as you may check a businesses rating with the Better Business Bureau, it is a smart move to know the background of your agent of choice. In Virginia, real estate licenses are policed by the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, DPOR for short. Here you can look up any agent and view the status of their license, if they are up-to-date on their continuing education credits, and any violations they may have received.

Yesterday was wonderful for so many of us. We were able to spend time with family we love, friends we adore, and food that seemed to go on for miles. Thanksgiving is a needed reminder to count our blessings and remember those who have not had the same good fortune.

Last weekend several Loudoun County families were affected by a fire that took place at The Reserve Town Center apartments in Sterling. It is hard to imagine having to start over again, but these families are having to do just that. Basic necessities we take for granted each day are now in demand to help those victims move on and start rebuilding their lives. If you would like to donate, below is a list of requested donations and drop off locations:

Thankful For Free Time

Thankful For Free Time

As Thanksgiving approaches, I have been counting my blessings each and every day. I am thankful for so many things including my amazing family, supportive friends, and a career that I love getting out of bed for! I have been blessed in most aspects of my life, that is with the exception of some coveted free time. As a seasoned mom to two teenage boys and a new-again mom to my youngest clocking in at just 9 months, I don’t often get a chance to, well, SLEEP! Yes, if I could save 3+ extra hours in a week I would use it to catch up on some much needed shut-eye!

For some time now, my team has been using Docusign and I must say it does save a lot of time. With the simple push of a button we are able to obtain signatures at rapid speed and seal up real estate deals in the blink of an eye. I greatly appreciate that Docusign allows me to free up some extra time to spend with my family...now, if only Baby D would get the hint and let me actually use that time to refresh my body and mind!

Even Baby D* is feeling the affects of the cold chill coming upon us! It’s hard to believe winter is just around the corner and we are not left with many more fall days to get prepared. Below are some tips for you to get started on winterizing your home:

• Wrap, seal, and drain – Use heating tape to wrap any exposed exterior pipes, caulk around windows, and be sure to turn off interior valves for exterior faucets and drain any water left in the pipes.

• Sweep it up – Prevent fires by having your chimney swept and don’t forget to clean out those gutters.

• Safety check – This is the perfect time to make sure all of your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are in good working order and have fresh back-up batteries!

• Go backwards - Make those ceiling fans work for you this winter by reversing the direction! This will force warm air downward and recirculate, making your home temps more comfortable!

• Maintenance check – Consider having your furnace serviced annually and don’t forget to keep some extra filters on hand to keep everything flowing properly!

These are just a few small tricks to help keep your home in tip-top shape this winter and usher you into the spring with a lot less on your to-do list!
