Project Elf- Loudoun County Girl Scouts Selflessly Serving Others
Ask Gina & Company, with Keller Williams
Loudoun Gateway, is continually humbled by the generosity of our Northern
Virginia community. An e-mail sent by Anna Nissinen, Loudoun County’s Public
Affairs and Communications Officer, explains “Project Elf,” a program
developed five years ago by Bethann Laign, former Service Unit Manager of Girl
Scouts Unit 70-9 in Leesburg.
Nissinen relays, “The
Girl Scouts of Loudoun County Service Unit 70 have worked during this holiday
season adopting the families currently receiving case management services
through MHSADS [Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services]
Prevention/ Intervention. This year, the number of troops participating
to provide holiday gifts and clothing for each family member has increased to
over 100. Each troop has either adopted one family, or in some cases, two
troops have shared in the adoption of a larger family. Loudoun Girl
Scouts have been busy wrapping each gift, then dropping them off at the Mental
Health Center in Leesburg.
“MHSADS
Prevention/Intervention staff members are in the process of delivering all the
gifts, clothing and food to each of the families before the holidays.
With the increasing number of families in need, MHSADS Prevention/Intervention
staff will again partner with the Sheriff’s Office for additional help with
deliveries. Sheriff’s deputies who have worked with the
Prevention/Intervention staff on other projects, such as Camp REAL (Raising
Education, Achievement and Leadership), will assist staff delivering the gifts
donated by the scouts.”
This year, Project Elf will be making
Christmas merry for nearly 100 local families, thanks to the Loudoun County
Girl Scouts. The AGC team wants your Holiday Season to be celebrated in a new
Sterling home so call our team, specializing in purchasing and selling real estate
